Centre to facilitate Tangaliya weavers in purchase of looms
Press Trust of India New Delhi The centre will facilitate purchase of looms for Tangaliya weavers, by providing them an assistance amounting to 90 per cent of the price of the equipment, the Textiles Ministry today said.
Tangaliya is a 700-year-old hand woven textile craft from Gujarat.
Textiles Minister Smriti Irani made this announcement yesterday during her interaction with Tangaliya weavers in Surendranagar district of Gujarat, an official statement said.
The minister also announced the formation of a special association of Tangaliya workers, which will work for their interest, it said.
She has also appealed to fashion designers to use the Tangaliya art work for their fashionable garments.
Tangaliya is an exquisite technique of weaving, using raw wool yarn.
