A police team which conducted investigation on the authenticity of the birth certificate and another certificate from a school headmaster which he produced in the apex court were found fake.
The team conducted verification of these certificates as per the directive of Supreme court.
Supreme Court in its order on July 3 had directed the police to investigate the case within a month and file charge sheet.
Three persons, including Kulai Ibrahim were sentenced for life term for the murder of a BJP leader after throwing acid on him here in 1997, a police release said today.
The sessions court had convicted and sentenced the three, to undergo life term and acquitted some others.
Madras High Court had upheld the verdict after the convicts went for an appeal in February, 2001, the release said.
Ibrahim's father K Abdul Razaq had filed a petition in the Supreme court claiming that his son was only 17 year old when the murder took place and pleaded to reduce the sentence. He produced the birth certificate as well as a certificate form a headmaster in the court.
