A police officer said today quoting delayed report from the interior area that two unidentified men came to a video hall in Tin-Kilo coal quarry market near Umrangso town and started firing at random last night even as a film was being screened before an audience of day labourers.
As one 8-year child died instantly and another 10-year old received bullet injury, the gunmen fled.
The deceased has been identified as Maruf Ahmed, while the injured one is Bishan Tamang.
Senior police officials from Umrangso and Haflong went to the place and security forces launched an operation to nab the culprits.
The official said all possible angles were being looked into the attack.
