Chimps escape from Vizag zoo, recaptured
Press Trust of India Visakhapatnam Two chimpanzees, brought here from Israel last year, escaped from an enclosure at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park this morning.
After a dramatic chase which lasted for 45 minutes, they were recaptured.
Assistant Curator of the zoo, SS Ali Mashaddy, said the chimps managed to climb the wall of the enclosure using a water pipe.
"Our staff had overlooked the pipe. However, we could catch the chimps because of alert security guards and caretakers," he added.
Three chimpanzees -- Chiko (18 years), Chipa (20 years), Chikita (30 years) -- were gifted by Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) whose delegation had visited the zoo earlier.
