The number of bird flu cases in China rose to 72 today after eight more people were infected, as the country stepped up efforts to contain the lethal H7N9 contagion.
Fourteen people have died so far due to the virus, for which there is no set medicine yet though two cases showed signs of recovery.
State television said eight new cases were reported today from different provinces.
Beijing reported two cases.
While a seven-year-old girl, the daughter of a poultry dealer recovered from high fever responding to the regular medication, a four-year-old boy from the same neighbourhood tested positive for the new avian influenza but showed no signs of the disease.
