According to a senior official at the state secretariat, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed the CID to keep a tab on activities of doctors in order to check any unlawful practice involving babies.
Banerjee was briefed by DGP Surajit Kar Purakayastha this afternoon on the recent developments in connection with the CID's probe into the international child trafficking racket busted in North 24 Parganas district.
Later in the evening, Purakayastha held a near two-hour- long meeting with top CID officers and briefed them about the directives from the chief minister, he said.
Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Social Welfare Shashi Panja met CID sleuths and held a discussion regarding its findings in connection with the probe into the child trafficking racket.
It was also learnt that the CID shared its findings to members of the West Bengal Child Rights Commission and a three-member committee was formed to keep a check on the illegal adoption racket in the state, a senior official of the Commission said.
