CID seizes Rs 2.4 crore from residence of former IPS officer

The CID of West Bengal Police today seized around Rs 2.4 crore from one of the residences allegedly belonging to former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh during a raid in connection with their probe into case of misconduct and extortion from civilians case, a senior officer said.
The money in Rs 500 and Rs 100 denomination, were recovered from one of the three residences in the city allegedly belonging to Ghosh, he said though declining to specify its location.
"We had to broke into the almirah where we found this amount. So far we have found money only. No gold ornaments were found," the IPS officer confirmed.

No documents were seized, he added.
The CID had pasted notices at the three residences in the city reportedly belonging to Ghosh and asked her to appear before the investigating officer within three days in connection with their probe into the case.
The CID last week had raided the residences of Ghosh and two other police officers in connection with the case.

Gold jewellery, documents and a large sum of cash were seized from the residences of Ghosh, the officer said.
Police carried out the raid following a court order after a person complained that some police personnel had forcefully taken money from him last year, the officer said.

Ghosh, who was the West Midnapore SP, resigned from the service after she was transferred to a less significant post - the commandant of the third battalion of the state armed police - in late December last year.
Raids were also conducted at the residences of two other police officers of West Midnapore district.
