The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will send samples of the huge cache of explosives making substance seized from a city godown to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for a forensic test to ascertain the place of their "origin."
Though a primary investigation revealed that the raw materials to make explosives were brought into the city from Odisha, the CID wants to be "assured" about its findings and hence would send a sample of each of the substance seized, a senior CID officer told PTI today.
CID sleuths yesterday recovered 500 kg of Sulphur powder, 600 kg of ammonium nitrate and 20 kg aluminium nitrate from a godown on the first floor of a building on Strand Road in the city following the arrest of its manager Pankaj Godai.
The manager, was arrested from the city after questioning two people apprehended last week in connection with the explosive recovery in Raghunathganj in Murshidabad district.
Talking further about their probe into the incident, the CID officer said, "These raw materials were transported via road into the city's godown. And then from the godown they were probably taken to West Midnapore, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas and to South 24 Parganas as per demands received."
It was also learnt that the raw materials were supplied to the "customers" in 10Kg-15Kg jute sacks to avoid "undue" police attention.
Asked whether the persons arrested in the case have any Maoist-link, the officer said, "The investigation is in a crucial stage and we want to keep our findings under wrap for the time being.
