CISF to undertake multiple initiatives for water conservation in country

The CISF, with the support of its lakhs of troops and their families, will undertake multiple initiatives in the field of water conservation, the force chief said Monday while inaugurating a mega project here.

The force, with about 1.61-lakh personnel in its ranks, will undertake multi-city projects to educate the public about renovation of water bodies, harvesting rainwater and reuse of waste water as part of the government's flagship scheme of 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan'.

CISF Director General (DG) Rajesh Ranjan said this will inaugurating a water conservation project at a camp of the force here in the Rohini area.

"This is a time-bound water conservation campaign whose main objective is to create awareness among the masses about the benefits of water conservation," he said.

"We have been declared as the nodal agency amongst the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for initiating awareness amongst the public towards 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan'," the DG said.

A bike rally, with the message of water conservation, was also flagged off during the event.

The DG also inaugurated a 1,298 flats residential society for the personnel of the force, deployed to guard the Delhi Metro network, in the Rohini area.

The flats have been purchased at a cost of Rs 200 crore from the Delhi Development Authority, a senior official said.

1,566 family quarters have also been purchased at Barapulla in Delhi while 261 acres of land has been acquired in Sohna in Gurgaon for catering to the residential needs of the personnel of the force, the official said.

Duing the event, the DG also sent off a 23-member expedition team of the force that will summit the 7,075-m tall Mount Satopanth peak in Uttarakhand. The team is led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Raghubir Lal.

The force plans to scale Mount Everest next year and this expedition is a step in that direction, the official said.

The Central Industrial Security Force is tasked to guard 61 civil airports of the country at present apart from a number of sensitive and vital installations in the aerospace and nuclear power domain.
