Coast Guard Director General Rajendra Singh was on a two day tour of Mumbai to review the infrastructure development and coastal security mechanism of the Western Coast.

The visit, which ended today, was aimed at bolstering ties with all stake holders of the coastal security mechanism in Maharashtra, a Coast Guard spokesperson said.

The Director General was briefed about the coastal security mechanism and preparedness of Coast Guard Region (West) to tackle maritime emergencies arising especially during monsoon, such as marine oil pollution, grounding of ship, cyclones etc.

An insight into the regions infrastructural developments was also presented to the Director General.

During the visit, the Flag Officer inaugurated the Coast Guard Sailors Residential Area at Tunga, Powai and laid the foundation stone for construction of sailors married accommodation at Borivili.

This is a major milestone that has been achieved by Coast Guard Region (West) which will go a long way in mitigating the shortage of married accommodation for Coast Guard sailors posted at Mumbai, he said in a release.

The Director General also interacted with officers, sailors, civilians and their families during his visit.

The Flag Officer lauded the efforts of all personnel of Coast Guard Region (West) for its multiple successful search and rescue missions, humanitarian aid and assistance to fishermen.

The DG made special mention about the successful search and rescue mission of container ship Maersk Honam in which 23 people were saved and which grabbed international attention and appreciation of the organisations reach and commitment in Indian Ocean Region.
