Coast Guard rescues seven fishermen from sinking boat

The Indian Coast Guard today rescued seven fishermen from a sinking boat off the coast here.
The rescue was performed by Coast Guard personnel fromICGS Rajdoot which was rushed to the aid of the fishermen, a Coast Guard release said.
The fishermen had sailed out of Old Port Mangalore at about 9 am today and were heading towards Malpe Harbour. After covering a distance of about three km, while transiting off Tannir Bhavi shore, the 27 ft Gillnet boat started getting flooded due to heavy swell and high waves, the release said.
The fishermen raised an alarm for their immediate rescue. After being informed by the New Mangalore Port Trust, Indian Coast Guard Headquarters at Panambur immediately despatched ICGS Rajdoot to rescue the vessel in distress.

The coast guard vessel rescued all the fishermen from the distressed boat, the release said.
This is the second major rescue operation taken up by the Indian Coast Guard local unit in the last few days.
The Coast Guard was called in for the rescue of 27 sailors on board the dredging barge Ibis which had struck a rock and started sinking off the Ullal coast last Saturday. All were successfully rescued by ICGS Amartya in an overnight operation.
"Time is very important factor in a rescue operation. Timely alarm by the fishermen for immediate rescue helped in their saving," DIG S S Dasila, commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, said after the completion of the rescue operation.
