Since there would be a chance of decrease in the price, due to expected arrivals from Kerala and Karnataka in May, farmers were advised to take their selling decision, based on the price analysis, Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre in the University said.
At present, coconut is ruling around Rs.30,800 per tonne, approximately Rs.16-18 per nut, for average size weighing 550 - 600 grams and copra at Rs.98 to rs.99 per kg in Avalpoondurai in Tamil Nadu.
Coconut and copra arrivals from these districts have already started, while the arrivals from Kerala have yet to commence.
Reduction in coconut production in Andhra Pradesh coupled with increasing demand for coconut in domestic market may increase the price in coming months, it said.
The analysis was based on the prevailing prices in Avalpoondurai for last last 15 years, to enable the farmers to take their selling decision.
