Coffee production estimate cut by 10% at 3.16 lakh tonne

India's coffee production estimate has been cut by 10 per cent to 3.16 lakh tonnes for the current 2017-18 marketing year, according to Coffee Board data.

The earlier estimate for 2017-18 was 3,50,400 tonnes.

However, the coffee production is estimated to be higher by 1.3 per cent compared with the previous year.

"The final crop estimate based on crop harvest data for the year 2017-18 is placed at 3,16,000 tonnes comprising of 95,000 tonnes of arabica and 2,21,000 tonnes of robusta.

"There is a overall decline of 34,400 tonnes (-9.82 per cent) over the post blossom estimate of 2017-18 (3,50,400 tonnes)," Coffee Board said in a statement.

During the year, the arabica production showed an overall decline of 8,100 tonnes (-7.86 per cent) and robusta declined by 26,300 tonne (-10.63 per cent) over the post blossom crop estimate, it added.

When compared to final crop of previous year 2016-17, there is a marginal increase of 4,000 tonnes, the board said.
