Cold conditions continue in North

Cold conditions prevailed in most parts of north India with the tourist resort of Pahalgam in Kashmir recording a fresh spell of snowfall even as the national capital basked in sunshine.
The resort recorded 11 cm of snowfall since yesterday and Amritsar in Punjab reeled under piercing cold with a low of 3.6 degrees Celsius.
Residents of Delhi had a pleasant day under clear and sunny skies as the city recorded the maximum temperature at 23 degrees Celsius.
The minimum in the national capital was 10.1 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal, said a Met department official.
In Jammu and Kashmir, fresh snowfall occurred in Pahalgam even as most other places in the Valley remained dry, with the state expected to experience another spell of wet weather from Wednesday.

Pahalgam, which serves as base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra during summer, recorded 11 cm of snowfall since yesterday and the night temperature at the resort rose by two notches to settle at a low of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, local MeT office.

Qazigund and Kokernag towns, also in south Kashmir, were other places in the Valley where the mercury went up. While Qazigund recorded the minimum of 1.2 degrees Celsius, the mercury in Kokernag settled at a low of 0.9 degree Celsius, a MeT official said.
Kokernag received 6.4 mm of rainfall as well, he said.
Srinagar registered a low of minus 0.1 degree Celsius compared to 1.2 degrees Celsius the previous night.

Leh was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir though the minimum there rose nearly four notches from the previous night's low of minus 12.9 degrees Celsius to record a low of minus 9.2 degrees Celsius.
Cold weather conditions persisted in several parts of Punjab and Haryana as Amritsar reeled under a temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius which was three notches below normal.
The minimum at Amritsar had yesterday settled at 4.4 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded below normal minimum temperatures of 9.4 degrees Celsius and 8.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 8.8 degrees Celsius. Hisar (6.5 degrees Celsius), Karnal (6.2 degrees Celsius) and Narnaul (6.2 degrees Celsius) in Haryana, identically recorded three notches below normal minimum temperature.

However, Ambala's minimum temperature settled two degrees above normal at 10.8 degrees Celsius.
Similar weather conditions persisted in Rajasthan where Sriganganagar recorded the lowest minimum at 6.2 degrees Celsius.
Churu had a low of 8.2 degrees Celsius. Pilani, Tonk, Bikaner and Jaisalmer had respective minimums of 8.5, 9.8, 10 and 11.2 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has predicted light rains at isolated places in the state in the next 24 hours.
