Cold wave conditions intensify in tribal areas, higher hills

Cold wave conditions intensified in tribal areas and other higher hills in Himachal Pradesh today.
The dry-cold spell continued in the region as mercury hovered around freezing point in tribal areas with Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recording a low of 0.9 degrees Celsius and 2.2 degrees Celsius respectively, while high altitude tribal areas reeled under intense cold wave conditions with mercury dipping five to seven degrees Celsius below freezing point.
The key tourist resort of Manali recorded a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar 6.4 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar 7.3 degrees Celsius, Solan 8.8 degrees Celsius, Shimla 11.9 degrees Celsius and Dharamsala 14.4 degrees Celsius.

The maximum day temperatures also dropped marginally and Unawas hottest in the region with a high of 31.2 degrees Celsius, while Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Nahan recorded maximum temperatures at 28.8 degrees Celsius,27.2 degrees Celsius and 26.1 degrees Celsius respectively, followed by Solan 25.2 degrees Celsius and Shimla 21.1 degrees Celsius.
The continued dry spell with only 26 per cent monsoon rains is causing anxiety among farmers as sufficient moisture is required in the soil for sowing of Rabi crop, which would start in November.
