The minimum temperatures hovered near the normal level mark at most places in the two states, but the maximum temperatures plummeted by up to eight notches below normal.
Chandigarh residents again woke up to a thick blanket of fog and icy cold winds this morning. The minimum temperature in the city settled at 6.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, a report of the MeT Department here said.
However, with days turning out to be extremely cold, the maximum temperature settled in the range of 12-17 degrees C.
Karnal (7 degrees C), Narnaul (4.5 degrees C) and Bhiwani (6.8 degrees C) also experienced the chill, though the minimum temperatures hovered close to normal level.
Amritsar experienced a cold night at 4.6 degrees C while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded respective lows of 7.6 degrees C and 6.9 degrees C.
A thick blanket of fog engulfing most parts of both the states continued to affect normal movement of road, rail and air traffic in the region.
Long distance train between Sainagar Shirdi and Kalka via Chandigarh was running behind schedule by over four hours. Another train between Chandigarh and Lucknow was also running late by over two hours.
