Cold wave tightens grip in higher hills of Himachal

The intense cold wave sweeping the state further aggravated today as mercury slipped below freezing point following rains at isolated places and mild snowfall in high altitude tribal areas.
Keylong and Kalpa in the twin tribal districts of Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaur recorded minimum temperature at minus 1.1 degrees Celsius and 0.4 degrees Celsius respectively while it dipped to 3.8 degrees Celsius in Manali and 5 degrees Celsius in Dalhousie.
Nahan recorded minimum temperature at 8.2 degrees Celsius, 6.1 degrees below normal while Shimla and Solan recorded a low of 8.2 and 8.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar 8.9, Sundernagar 9.1, Palampur 10, Una 13.2 and Dharamsala 15.4 degrees Celsius.
Nahan received 15 mm of rains followed by Kandaghat 12 mm, Dharampur 10 mm, Renuka and Shimla 6 mm each, Jubbarhatti, Rajgarh and Solan 5 mm each.
Una was hottest in the region with maximum temperature at 29.4 degrees Celsius while Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Dharamsala recorded a high of 25.7, followed by Nahan 24.7, Solan 23.5, Shimla 18.3 and Kalpa 15 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted rains and snow at isolated places in tribal areas and higher hills during the next 48 hours.
