College deletes CM's name from notice in admission row

The Jamshedpur Women's College has corrected its "inadvertent mistake" and removed the name of Chief Minister Raghuvar Das from a notice that had earlier said admission seekers in B.Com who failed to get seats in the college will get another chance following instruction of Das.
"There was no such instruction from the chief minister. It was a mistake inadvertently committed by our staff. We have withdrawn the notice and replaced it after removing his name," officiating Principal of the college Sujata Sinha said today.
The notice on Friday had stated that B.Com students who failed to secure admission in the college for meeting the marks criteria will get another chance following instruction of the Chief Minister.

Now, the much sought-after college, affiliated to Kolhan University, will hold an admission test on August 25 for those who had applied for admission, Sinha said.
The officiating principal, however, admitted that a suggestion from the Chief Minister Office, Jamshedpur, was received asking the college authorities to consider the demand of the students and allow them one more chance.
"As the government has launched 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (Save girl child, educate girl child) campaign, we have decided to hold the admission test," Sinha said.

"The capacity of the college in B.Com is 700 but we took a little more than it," she said adding the college has planned to take a few more students following the test.

Sinha said she and other staff members of the college had recently met the chief minister and apprised him of the shortage of teachers, inadequate infrastructure as well as security.
"As the college is the most sought-after in this part of the state, we are unable to take more students due to shortage of teachers and infrastructure," she said adding the chief minister had assured them to look into the problems.
