Commerce Ministry weeds out 24,338 files during June-July

The ministry, according to sources, held three special drives during June-July for weeding out and indexing of old files and records

As part of the Modi-government's cleanliness drive in the working area to improve overall ambiance of offices, the Commerce Ministry has weeded out as many as 24,338 files during June and July.

The ministry, according to sources, held three special drives during June-July for weeding out and indexing of old files and records.

A total of 5,493 files were recorded, 27,609 files were reviewed and 24,338 files were weeded out during the three drives, they said, adding that it has been communicated to the Cabinet Secretariat.

In a directive aimed at improving the work culture in government offices, the Cabinet Secretary had asked all secretaries to improve the overall ambiance of offices and ensure punctuality of officials especially in departments with major public interaction.

The top bureaucrat of the government had asked all the departments to increasingly emphasise on "cleanliness of work areas and improvement in the over-all ambiance of office buildings as also punctuality on the part of the officials should be reviewed on sustained basis so that there is a visible improvement and there are no report of slippages in this regard".

Soon after taking charge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met all the secretaries and had asked them to begin workplace reforms with cleaning-up of offices and improving the conditions, which would automatically result in efficient services to the citizens.

In June, Ministry of Home Affairs and Department of Personnel and Training at North Block were told to get rid of the clutter and weed out old and unwanted files.
