An official release here said today the commission, which was notified yesterday, will ascertain the root causes leading to the violence in various places of Goalpara district, identify individuals or organisations responsible for it and also fix responsibility.
It will also determine lapses on the part of civil and police administration in tackling the situation.
The commission will give recommendations for ensuring prevention of recurrence of such incidents, besides, inquiring into any other relevant matter.
Violence in Goalpara during the recently concluded panchayat polls led to the death of 21 people and injury to several others including security personnel, besides causing considerable loss of property.
