In view of total collapse of the communication system during recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir, a committee has been formed to make suggestions for providing a dedicated network to ensure uninterrupted communication during natural disasters.
This was conveyed today during a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The meeting was informed that a committee had been set up in the Department of Technology which will submit its report within two months for improving communication network during disasters.
The Home Minister directed to setup a robust communication system that would withstand natural disasters by a greater degree.
Singh said the existing system can be further improved based on national and international experiences in such situations.
The meeting resolved that disasters managers should be provided with satellite phones and priority calls should be given to those involved in rescue and relief operations during natural disasters.
The participants discussed the experiences of difficulties faced in the field of communication during the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand's natural disaster last year.
The recent floods had seen failure of communication network completely in Jammu and Kashmir.
