The police also directed the community pujas to ensure environment-friendly pandals. Puja organisers were instructed to immerse idols in the sea at Gopalpur on October 25. No immersion would be allowed in ponds, police said.
All these were discussed at the coordination committee meeting of district administration, police administration and puja committee representatives held here yesterday, they said.
"Puja committees should ensure environment-friendly pandals with no use of plastic," said DIG (southern range) Amitabh Thakur.
Around 10 platoons of police force (each platoon has about 30 personnel) will be deployed in the city to manage traffic during the festivities, he said.
