Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said in Rajya Sabha that the government has envisaged establishment of an integrated Computer Aided Dispatch platform for supporting Geographical Information System-based call taking and Global Positioning System-based police vehicle dispatch function that will help improve the efficiency in responding to women's distress calls and provide speedy assistance.
"The project is to be implemented in 114 identified cities which include 54 cities having a population of more than one million and cities/towns which are the capitals of the states/UTs as well as headquarters of 41 highly crime- prone districts," he said in a written reply to a question.
The Cabinet Committe on Economic Affairs had approved the proposal on February 5 and sanctioned a total of Rs 321.69 crore out of the Nirbhaya Fund, he added.
