Congress today alleged that state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa had paid penalty to the Income Tax department for taking a bribe from a contractor firm as Chief Minister and chairperson of a state corporation between 2008 to 2011, a charge denied by the saffron party.

At a press conference here, Congress leader V S Ugrappa released what he said were Income Tax documents, saying the Upper Bhadra liftirrigation project was launched when Yeddyurappa was ChiefMinister between May 2008 and May 2011.

As chairman of Karnataka Neeravari Nigam, the state irrigation corporation, Yeddyurappa got the contract awarded to Murudeshwara Power Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of RNSIL Infrastructure, he alleged.

After awarding this contract to this company,Yeddyurappa took bribes in 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12, Ugrappa alleged.

This money was not declared while filing the income tax returns by Yeddyurappa, either in the year 2009-10 or 2010-11, he claimed.

He demanded the Central government and theauthorities concerned initiate action in this regard.

Ugrappa said, "These are not our documents. This is an order against Yeddyurappa by the Income tax department under the Central Government."
