Hours ahead of polling for two Lok Sabha seats in Goa, the state Congress today alleged that party's symbol was "intentionally" printed in lighter ink on the EVMs by local election officials.
Goa Congress Chief John Fernandes in a complaint to Election Commission said the party symbol on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) has been printed in a lighter ink, compared to the other symbols.
"This is purposely done by the local election officials, who are government servants and bow to the diktats of the ruling BJP," Fernandes told PTI this evening.
The elections for North and South Goa seat will be held between 7 AM and 6 PM tomorrow in the state with Congress, BJP, AAP and CPI in the fray.
Fernandes said, "Thankfully the Congress symbol is the first in the series and hence cannot be ignored by voters."
He said there are complaints from South Goa that Congress' hand symbol has been printed in lighter ink, while the rest of the symbols, including that of BJP were printed in dark ink.
"This has been done intentionally by the local election officials," he alleged.
The Congress in the past had accused Chief Electoral Officer Keshav Chandra and Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti of being hand in gloves with the BJP-led state government.
