Delhi Congress demanded that the AAP Government hold by-elections to the 13 vacant seats of Councillors in the wards of three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs) without any further delay as poor civic condition prevailed in the concerned areas.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken has written a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asking him to hold elections to 13 vacant seats of Councillors - 4 in North, 7 in South and 2 in East MCDs, adding that in absence of elected Councillors the concerned wards were neglected and people were suffering due to poor civic conditions.
Maken said "Delhi State Election Commission has already urged the government to immediately conduct by-elections in the respective areas (wards) and as per the proposal the elections were to be held in April but no action has been taken by the government."
"Aam Admi Party was shying away from holding bye-elections to the 13 MCD seats fearing defeat, as the AAP Government has not been able to fulfill the tall promises made to the people before the Delhi Assembly elections and they may not be able to repeat the Assembly election results," he said today in a press conference.
Saying that he failed to understand why Delhi Government was delaying the MCD bye-elections when the Election Commission has started the process, Maken added that Congress will hold a week long protest in the 13 wards seeking immediate bye-elections there.
It was injustice to the people of the 13 MCD wards which are without councillors facing lack of proper civic amenities and other development works, he added.
