Main Opposition Congress today forced 25-minute of adjournment of Punjab assembly by creating a ruckus on not being given sufficient time to raise issues like drug abuse, illegal mining and farmers suicide in the state.
During the Zero Hour, leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar accused speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal for not allowing members of his party to raise the pertinent issues.
Jakhar alongwith his flock jumped into the Well of the House and raised a noisy protest forcing the speaker to adjourn the Assembly for 25 minutes.
During the Congress protest, there were heated exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches.
Jakhar sought a specific reply form the government on suicide committed by farmer Kuldeep Singh at Bathinda today.
"The deceased farmer had left a suicide note in which he held the government responsible for taking such a step," Jakhar said.
After the adjournment, heated exchanges took place between Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) and SAD MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha and Congress MLAs Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Kuljeet Singh Nagra.
Sloganeering and acrimonious scenes between certain members of treasury and opposition benches took the centre-stage after the adjournment.
Congress MLA Jasbir Singh Sidhu sought a probe into illegal mushrooming of certain societies in Mohali, which had duped several people by its owners who had left the country.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal assured that the government will probe the matter.
Jakhar also raised the issue of inflation, saying that the Congress MLAs staged a protest outside the House to welcome the chief minister, but he (Badal) arrived late deliberately to the Assembly.
Independent MLA Rajnish demanded that the illegal mining must be checked at all cost.
Infuriated for not being allowed to raise any question, independent MLAs Balwinder Singh Bains and Simmerjit Singh Bains, both brothers, teared papers in the House and threw them in the Well of the House.
"We have been putting questions, but their replies never come," Balwinder alleged.
However, speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal said that the questions are allowed serial wise and those who give questions in advance are given preference to those who submit late.
In the absence of Congress members the House passed non official resolution on House recommending the state and Centre government to take effective steps to impart skill training to the youth so as to meet the challenge of unemployment and to enable them to be self sufficient.
Later, the House was adjourned sine die.
