A Congress leader has sought permission of Sonia Gandhi to allow him to stage a silent demonstration outside the party headquarters apparently in protest against some general secretaries.
Anees Durrani, a former AICC Secretary, has in a letter to Gandhi said he wants to stage the silent protest in order to "appeal to the conscience" of some party general secretaries to quit in the wake of a string of poll defeats.
Durrani has taken no names, but his move appeared to be aimed at party general secretaries Janardan Dwivedi and Madhusudan Mistry.
Dwivedi had reportedly made appreciative remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while Mistry was in-charge of the politically crucial Uttar Pradesh where the party had fared poorly in the Lok Sabha elections.
Durrani alleged that some of the general secretaries have misused their positions for personal gains and have damaged the party.
