A Congress member demanded in the Lok Sabha today that CBSE withdraw a circular on dress code for students appearing in All India Pre-Medical Test, eliciting support from several members as he claimed that it intruded on their religious beliefs.
"CBSE has banned hijab, the headscarf, veils and sleeves during the All India Pre-Medical Test. Last year, a nun was crying and did not write the examination; she went back. Dress code is an identity of a person. So, there should not be a feeling that their religious belief is being intruded upon," M I Shanavas said, raising the issue in the Zero Hour.
The circular was issued last year.
He asked the government to take measures to ensure that this aspect of the circular is withdrawn to see to it that "religious sentiments, the dress code, of Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, etc. Are fully protected.
