Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar today said the Congress should support, not oppose, income tax raids against Karnataka Power Minister D K Shivakumar, even as he described the move as a crusade against black money.
The income tax department has seized over Rs 11 crore from various locations linked to Congress minister Shivakumar and his associates in connection with a case of alleged tax evasion. Today is the second day of the raids.
Shivakumar was overseeing the stay of 44 Congress MLAs from Gujarat at a resort near Bengaluru ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls in their state.
The Congress claimed the MLAs were moved to prevent the BJP from poaching them ahead of the August 8 Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat.
"The Congress should support the crusade against black money and should not oppose such an exercise (to fight against black money). Congress should stand against corruption and black money and and not stand with it," Kumar told reporters outside Parliament.
Congress members yesterday vociferously raised the issue in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha as they accused the government of using investigating agencies like the CBI, ED and I-T department to target their party and leaders.
