Congress today slammed BJP for playing blame game over the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir, and asked it to rise above petty politics in order to rehabilitate affected families.
"BJP leaders always try to play politics during the time of disaster at a time when we should be with the families, being together sharing their grief," JKPCC secretary Salman Nizami said today.
"BJP must understand that this is not the time to play petty politics. On the one hand, people are craving for food, shelter and medicines, on the other, BJP, rather than talking about rehabilitation of flood victims, are blaming others.
"At this critical juncture, we have to rise above petty politics, personal differences and jointly think about rehabilitating the (flood) ravaged families," he said.
Nizami said BJP must understand that their government at the Centre is dutiful to rehabilitate flood victims, while also mentioning that Congress leaders were on the job from day one along with the local youth.
Even when other politicians were seen bickering on television debates, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was on the ground and standing by the people. It was at his behest that the floods in J&K were declared as a national calamity by the Prime Minister, he said.
Azad has been visiting almost every flood effected area and he will continue to do so. After pressure from Azad, the Narendra Modi government had agreed to sanction relief to the state but it is still insufficient.
