Congress supporters today protested against AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, who is set to become Delhi's Chief Minister, for use of allegedly derogatory words against their party and its leaders and demanded the party to withdraw its support.
Leaders of Congress shouted slogans and burnt Kejriwal's effigy in front of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC)for allegedly calling the party corrupt and leaders as thieves.
"We have come here to send a message to our leaders Rahul Gandhi, newly-appointed DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and Congress General Secretary in-charge of Delhi Shakeel Ahmed that we feel cheated," Nafis Ahmed alias Malik, elected secretary of Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress, said.
"Kejriwal has called us "thief and thug" several times in his recent public gatherings. Congress has given his party support so that they can form the government but he in turn insults us," Malik added.
Manish Chaudhary, Ex DUSU General Secretary, expressed his disappointment over Kejriwal's remarks and requested all senior leaders to take back the support.
Other leaders said Congress extended its support because Kejriwal has promised Delhiites that he will bring down the electricity bills and provide 700 litre of drinking water to them.
"We want Congress to understand the feelings of its workers and immediately pull back the support extended to AAP," Shashikant Sharma, another Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress Secretary, said.
The leaders said they will submit a written memorandum to Rahul Gandhi demanding Congress's withdrawal of support to AAP.
"We will submit a written memorandum to Rahul Gandhi requesting him to pull back the suppport given to AAP," Malik said.
