Cong threatens stir over dalit triple murder; farmers' issues

Congress today threatened to launch agitation against Devendra Fadnavis government in Maharashtra over "non-resolution" of issues including brutal murder of three members of a dalit family and compensation to soybean growers.
"The BJP government is yet to win trust vote. In the last few days, it has failed to address the issue of arresting culprits of the dalit triple murder in Ahmednagar district, compensation for soybean growers and starting cotton procurement centres," Congress spokesman Ratnakar Mahajan said.
State unit Congress president Manikrao Thakre met the chief minister today and presented him a memorandum highlighting these issues, he said.
"If government fails to address these issues urgently, Congress will resort to agitation in the state," Mahajan said.

Three members of a dalit family were brutally murdered in Javkhed village in Ahmadnagar district last month with one of the body found decapitated.
Meanwhile, Congress, which is still smarting under the crushing defeat it had suffered in the last month's Assembly elections, has decided to regain the people's trust by taking up various issues regarding their welfare.

"At the meeting of state office-bearers and district unit chiefs, Thakre said there is no need for party workers to be disillusioned as the party will get back to win people's trust by fighting for their issues with the government," Mahajan said.

He said Congress has decided to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru falling on November 14 by organising various programmes.
"Instructions were given to district units, state office-bearers to ensure that several programmes to propagate Nehru's ideals and vision for the country should be organised throughout the state," Mahajan said.
Similarly, membership drive should be completed before December 31 after which organisational elections from booth level to that of state president would be announced.
