Congress candidate Chawngthu wins Hrangturzo bypoll

Congress candidate Vanlalawmpuii Chawngthu today won the bypoll for the Hrangturzo assembly seat, becoming the first woman legislator in Mizoram after a gap of 27 years.
Chawngthu defeated her nearest United Democratic Front (UDF) rival H Lalduhawma by a margin of 2,503 votes.
Bypoll for the Hrangturzo seat was necessitated as it was vacated by Chief Minister La Thanwawla who had retained his Serchhip.
