Prakash was allegedly assaulted by a few AAP legislators at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence last night, even as the chief minister's office dismissed the charge as "bizarre and baseless".
Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari wondered if it was an attempt to divert the attention of the country from the multi-crore bank fraud.
Doubts have arisen in the minds of people over the incident as it has come at a time when the entire country is focused on the bank fraud, he said.
The spokesperson said that there were doubts over the incident taking place now when the entire country's focus was on the banking sector scam.
"I hope it is not an attempt to divert attention from the main issues concerning the common man. If anyone tries to divert attention from the main issues, it is a betrayal of the country," he said.
Tewari said that while the Congress party was not trying to undermine the sensitivity of the issue, the bigger concern before the country is the state of the economy.
Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken termed the incident as an administrative and constitutional crisis, saying this was another low.
He claimed that since the incident took place in front of the chief minister, Kejriwal should apologise. and he had no right to remain in office and should immediately resign.
Maken also said that it would be a very dangerous situation if Delhi goes towards administrative paralysis and demanded that the Delhi Lieutenant Governor should meet the chief minister and restore confidence.
"We condemn the attack on Chief Secretary and demand safety with no political pressure on Delhi Government Officers!," he tweeted.
Maken along with Sheila Dikshit will also meet Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal on the issue.
