Congress would solve Bihars flood problem if voted to power:

The Congress on Friday asserted that it would solve Bihars problem of recurring floods by taking up the matter with Nepal if the party was voted to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

AICC in-charge for the state, Shaktisinh Gohil said this at a press conference here to brief reporters about the partys "Jan Akanksha Rally" on February 3 which would be Rahul Gandhis first public meeting in Bihar after becoming the Congress president.

"Rahul Gandhi has been apprised of the problems of Bihar by the party leadership. He is sensitive towards the losses that residents of the state have to suffer on account of the floods that take place almost every year," Gohil told reporters.

"Since the rivers which cause the maximum damage to crops, life and property originate mostly in Nepal a solution to the problem would essentially involve taking the neighbouring country on board. We can promise to the people of Bihar that this problem would be solved if we are voted to power at the Centre", Gohil said.

He also said that Sundays rally would be attended by a number of senior leaders besides Gandhi, including Chief Ministers of states ruled by our party and senior leader Ahmed Patel.

"In addition, we have invited top leaders of our alliance partners in the state, including RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, RLSP supremo Upendra Kushwaha and HAM president Jitan Ram Manjhi. We understand they all will be with us at the rally," Gohil added.

He dismissed speculations that the rally, to be held at the historic Gandhi Maidan, could witness induction into the party of controversial Independent MLA Anant Singh who has declared his intention to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Mokama.

"A rally is not a place where people are made to join the party. At present I cannot say whether Anant Singh will be inducted into the Congress. But, Chief Minister Nitish Kumars JD(U) and his ally the BJP is being hypocritical in criticising us citing the MLAs criminal antecedents," Gohil said.

"They would do well to recall that until his exit from the JD(U) ahead of the 2015 assembly polls, Anant Singh used to be a favourite of the chief minister," Gohil added.

A three-term MLA from Mokama, Anant Singh has many serious criminal cases against him. He was expelled from the JD(U) in 2015 after his name cropped up in the murder of one Puttush Yadav a supporter of Lalu Prasads RJD which, along with the Congress, was then supporting Nitish Kumars government.
