There used to be heavy demand for flowers during saturdays when flowers would be sent to most part of southern districts and Kerala.
"We used to get short supply of flowers before Diwali. But this year there is bountiful harvest due to rains and there are no buyers for flowers", said Muthumari one of the merchants at the Market.
"We are not seeing local buyers or buyers from other districts this diwali season"he said.
Describing the sale of flower as "very dull" he said "We imported rose from Udhagamandalam and Bangalore. But the sale was not at expected level. A bundle of rose which would normally cost Rs 150 is sold only for Rs 70. Jasmine price is also low at Rs 250 a kg while another varieity Pikshi flower and Mullai were sold at Rs 150-200 a kg", he said.
Lakshmi, a leading merchant, said Lotus was not on sale in the market because the tank lease holders opted to wait for a day. Some Traders could sell the flowers only for Rs.Three per piece. They expected more buyers by tomorrow.
