Convergence of technologies needed to fight cancer: Kalam

Former President A P J Abdul Kalam today expressed concern over the rising number of cancer cases in Jammu and Kashmir and said there was a need to have convergence of various technologies to fight such diseases.
"There has been a rise in cases of cancer in Kashmir and it remains a main threat partially due to different dietary habits. Kashmir has a history of having different types of communicable as well as non-communicable diseases. The convergence of technologies can help in fighting such diseases," Kalam said.
Kalam was speaking at the inauguration of a four-day International Conference on Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Processes at Kashmir University here.

Kalam said the convergence of various technologies will lead to emergence of new advanced technology, resulting in increase in the average life span of humans.
"Convergence of technologies like information technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology and robotics will lead to emergence of new advanced technology. Together these technologies will increase our average life span," he said.
Kalam appreciated the Kashmir University's initiative to organise such an international conference and expressed hope that the outcome of the discussions among the scientists will contribute towards controlling the spread of dreaded diseases.
The conference is being attended by eminent national and international scientists.
