Crime Branch Inspector Rakesh Srivastava attempted suicide by cutting his wrist vein in the hotel room where he was staying. He was transferred to Ghazipur from Varanasi on October 25, Circle Officer (Chetganj) Anurag Arya said.
He was rushed to a private hospital and his condition is stated to be stable, Arya said, adding, preliminary investigation suggests that he took the step due to family tension.
A case has been registered and investigation into the matter is on, he said.
