Copper sheds 0.19% low demand

Speculators trim positions on lower offtake from consuming industries; gains on LME cap losses

Copper prices fell 0.19 per cent to Rs 386 per kg in futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions amid a weak trend at domestic spot markets due to subdued demand.

Copper for delivery in far-month June contracts fell by 80 paise or 0.19 per cent to Rs 386 per kg at the Multi Commodity Exchange in a business turnover of 29 lots.

The April contract shed 40 paise or 0.10 per cent to Rs 382.60 per kg in 927 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in copper prices at futures trade to a weak trend at spot markets due to sluggish demand form consuming industries, but metal's gained the London Metal Exchange (LME), limited the losses.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months rose 0.2 per cent to $6,072.50 per tonne at the LME, while in Shanghai the metal for June contracts advanced 0.8 per cent to 43,670 yuan ($7,052) a tonne.
