The banquet was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outgoing Vice President Hamid Ansari, Defence Minister Arun Jaitely and Army chief General Bipin Rawat, among others, an Army official said.
The President is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Navy chief Lanba currently heads the powerful Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) which also comprises Gen Rawat and Air chief B S Dhanoa.
Ram Nath Kovind, who defeated joint opposition candidate Meira Kumar, will take oath on June 25.
