As today's girl and as a popular Bengali heroine, Payel Sarkar thinks the emphasis on costume jewellery, its visual elements, is getting more manifest in our films these days.
"Ritudar (Rituparno Ghosh's) Chokher Bali was one film which had shown how elaborate costume jewellery can do up the visual appeal of a film. In Bengali movies this aspect is being more highlighted these days a la Karan Johar flicks in Bollywood," the Le Chakka, Bojhena Se Bojhena actor told PTI here.
Payel, who was speaking on the sidelines of India Haat by Rotary Club of Kolkata Mahanagar, would also rate Aparna Sen's Goynar Baksho "As one film" where jewellery designs and looks form an integral part.
Payel, who kept her options open for different genres of flicks, from Le Chakka to Ekti Ashare Goppo, said "There is nothing frustrating about Ekti Ashare Goppo not releasing" months after being made.
"It happens and now I hear producers (are) planning to release it soon," she said about the flick which is a spoof of a section of Tollywood copying south blockbusters and "I pin a lot of hope in it," she said about the film by a debutante director caught in the chit fund quagmire.
About the ethnic accent in the handicraft, curio show, Payel said, "Ethnic jewellery is the in thing for present day woman which compliments the cool, casual look."
Cactus frontman Sidhu, talking about Bengali films, averred some film music tracks were topping charts more than the films barely running in theatres for weeks.
"Namte Namte, where I composed the music, was a great hit with the tv audience as well as music which topped charts. Perhaps we need to define the audience more, the niche segment while targeting the film," he said.
The exhibition showcased ethnic wears, having contemporary, not so funky designs and cuts suiting every palate.
