The reforms initiated at the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) last year would help the country as well as the ruling party, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata, Ma Zhanwu, said.
The Congress, which took place in October, 2017, had also cemented the position of Xi Jingping as President for the second term till 2022.
"The backdrop behind the sweeping changes behind the reform measures taken at the Congress was to fulfill the Chinese dream of a national rejuvenation," Zhanwu said at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) here today.
He said that the targets set was to make China a moderately prosperous country in all aspects and by 2050 a modern socialist nation in every dimension.
The Chinese envoy said that these dreams would not be realised without the reform measures initiated since the country was plagued by insurmountable corruption, environmental pollution of massive proportions and to address the 'principal contradiction in society' of getting rid of poverty totally and lift the quality of lives of the people and usher in a balanced development of the economy.
Besides being the President, Jingping is also the general secretary of the CPC and chairman of Central Military Commission, holding three topmost positions.
"The 19th Congress decisions will help the country to take forward the success of four decades of reforms and opening up further," he said.
He said China would continue to rely on reforms, and be more open to foreign investment and protect intellectual property rights forcefully.
Regarding India's reservations on the One Belt One Road (OBOR) Initiative, Zhanwu said that it was a shared approach with the other Asian nations and not China's solo programme.
