CPI today said started a 'jan sampark' (mass connection) programme with a call to foil the "communal designs" of BJP and to oust the "anti-people" UPA government at the Centre in the next general elections.
Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary Bant Singh Brar said, the programme, which is part of a nationwide campaign, will continue till September 20.
BJP's move to put forward Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate is dangerous, as he is responsible for killing innocent people during the Godhra-riots, Brar alleged.
Accusing the UPA government at the Centre for selling out the country to foreign multinationals, he said, "As a result of its policies, the country is now heading towards an economic emergency."
The rise in prices of essential commodities has forced the common man to cut down his daily budget on food, Brar said adding that it would further lead to the already existing high percentage of malnutrition in the country.
"Rampant corruption at the Centre has exposed the hollowness of this government," he said.
Kartar Singh Bowani, district secretary of CPI, said law and order situation in Punjab is grave.
"Land, sand and drug mafias are running free. Democratic norms are being flouted by the government," he alleged.
