Apprehending terror and violence during tomorrow's election to 91 municipalities across West Bengal, the CPI-M and BJP today met Governor K N Tripathi, while the saffron party called upon the Left and the Congress to resist attempts at malpractices setting aside their "party flags".
"I appeal to the opposition parties, including Congress and CPI-M, to unitedly resist attempts at causing violence and rig the election. There is no need to bear party flags", state BJP president Rahul Sinha told reporters emerging from the Raj Bhavan after meeting Governor K N Tripathi.
Sinha expressed apprehension that the 32 companies of central forces, which it was announced were coming, would be of no use because of their late arrival.
"The state government created a drama to ensure that central forces don't reach in time," he alleged.
Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra, who led a delegation to the Raj Bavan, said that they had apprised the Governor of the presence of a Jaamat leader of Bangladesh in the bordering area of Nadia.
Asked if they are apprehending terror and violence tomorrow, the CPI-M leader retorted, "It is not a matter of apprehension. It is what we have witnessed. We urge the people to stand united and cast their votes tomorrow. We should not only depend on central forces or state Election Commission," he said.
The state BJP chief also echoed Mishra's statement regarding the presence of a Jaamat leader in Nadia to create terror and rig the polls.
