The CPI(M) today staged a protest accusing Delhi Government of having failed to ensure food security and demanded the Arvind Kejriwal dispensation to opt for better public distribution system (PDS) in the state.
"The government has made no attempt to implement food security measures. People have such high expectations from AAP government, but unfortunately, they are putting people in Delhi in worse situation.
"Delhi government is blaming Centre and Centre is blaming Delhi Government and between the two, people are being kicked like a ball," CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat said.
Karat blamed the government for allegedly not issuing ration cards up to a desired number denying benefits to deserving residents. She also expressed concerns over rising onion prices in the city.
The protesters raised slogans demanding better PDS and provision of 35 kg ration including pulses, sugar, salt, edible oil, etc to all households at cheap rates.
A delegation of party's Delhi unit also submitted a memorandum at Food and Supply Minister Asim Ahmad Khan's office.
The Minister, allegedly, refused to meet the delegation, evoking sharp reaction from the communist party which condemned his "high and mighty" attitude.
CPI(M) state secretary K M Tiwari and secretariat members Asha Sharma and Anurag Saxena also took part in the protest.
