CPI(M) today asked the government to immediatetly rescind its decision to divest its shares in the state-owned Neyveli Lignite Corporation and extended support to its workers who have been on strike to protest the privatisation move.
"The Neyveli workers are raising a demand which is in the national interest, that the policy of disinvestment in public sector be stopped. The Government should forthwith rescind the decision to disinvest shares of this profitable navaratna company," the CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement here.
It said about 27,000 employees have been on an indefinite strike for the past eleven days demanding a halt to the disinvestment of shares announced by the Centre.
The CPI(M) extended its full support to the stir and the demand of the workers raised unitedly by all the trade unions.
