A 50-year-old assistant sub-inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) today allegedly shot himself dead using his service revolver in the paramilitary force's camp in Bharni village in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, police said.
"Assistant Sub-Inspector Pushpendra Bahadur Singh ended his life by shooting himself with his service revolver in his barrack in the camp of CRPF's Group Centre located in Bharni village on Bilaspur-Kota road," said Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Arif Sheikh.
He said Singh's colleagues heard a gunshot from his barrack this morning, following which they rushed to the place only to find himself lying in a pool of blood.
Singh was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead, the SP said.
Family members of the ASI, a native of Katni in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, are living in Manendragarh in Koriya district of Chhattisgarh.
The exact trigger behind the extreme step taken by the ASI cannot be ascertained immediately, the officer said.
"As per preliminary information, Singh has been disturbed since his wife died around a month back," he added.
A case has been registered and further investigation is on, the SP said.
