CRPF has "destroyed" the Left Wing Extremists' efforts to create a "red corridor" in the country and was able to restrict them to a few states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, the outgoing chief of country's largest paramilitary said here today.
CRPF Director General Prakash Mishra announced that about 3-lakh personnel strong force will raise four new battalions and some large troops infrastructure during the coming 2016-17 financial year.
"CRPF has destroyed the dream of Maoists to establish a red corridor from Pashupati (in Nepal) to Tirupati (in south India) and mainly restricted them to some areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar," Mishra was quoted as saying by a CRPF spokesperson.
Mishra said this while addressing the troops during his farewell parade at the forces' camp in Kadarpur area here, the spokesman said.
He said the force has got government sanctions to raise four new battalions, including an all-women unit, a large Group Centre and a Range headquarter during 2016-17.
Mishra, a former DGP of Odisha and 1977-batch IPS officer, headed the Central Reserve Police Force for over a year and has been credited with bringing down the casualty of its troops in operations during his tenure, especially in anti-Naxal offensives.
Senior IPS officer and 1981-batch Telangana cadre officer K Durga Prasad will take over as new CRPF DG.
