At a time when parts of Rajasthan are grappling with drought, a prominent dargah in Bhilwara district has pitched in to save the precious resource, asking devouts to perform ablution through a small pot instead of running tap water.
Nearly 40 such places in the state are being approached to make arrangements in the respective dargahs for the visitors to use limited water for ablution, Mansoor Ali, spiritual head of the dargah of Sufi Saint Shah Saiyyed Mansur said.
He said the step would help in saving around 10 litres of water per person.
"I am writing letters to almost 40 Dargahs to provide pots to visitors and prohibit use of tap water. Normally 12-15 litres of water is used in ablution by one person and if this is done with pot instead of tap water, this could be done only in 2-3 litres. If taken collectively, this move can save huge amount of water," he said.
"I have already started this in Bhilwara Dargah, asking the visitors to use the pot and not the running water in Bhilwara," Ali told PTI.
About 19 of the total 33 districts in Rajasthan are facing drought and water crisis. Every summer, Bhilwara, the textile city, faces a huge water crisis with drinking water supplied through rail.
